Measuring emotional intelligence with the Mayer-Salovery-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT).
This manuscript examines the measurement instrument developed from the ability model of EI (Mayer and Salovey, 1997), the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT; Mayer, Salovey and Caruso, 2002). The four subtests, scoring methods, psychometric properties, reliability, and factor structure of the MSCEIT are discussed, with a special focus on the discriminant, convergent, predi...
متن کاملMeasuring emotional intelligence with the MSCEIT V2.0.
Does a recently introduced ability scale adequately measure emotional intelligence (EI) skills? Using the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT; J. D. Mayer, P. Salovey, & D. R. Caruso, 2002b), the authors examined (a) whether members of a general standardization sample and emotions experts identified the same test answers as correct, (b) the test's reliability, and (c) the p...
متن کاملExploring the validity of the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) with established emotions measures.
Emotions measures represent an important means of obtaining construct validity evidence for emotional intelligence (EI) tests because they have the same theoretical underpinnings. Additionally, the extent to which both emotions and EI measures relate to intelligence is poorly understood. The current study was designed to address these issues. Participants (N = 138) completed the Mayer-Salovey-C...
متن کاملConfirmatory factor analysis of the Mayer¬タモSalovey¬タモCaruso Emotional Intelligence Test V 2.0 (MSCEIT)
Gignac (2005) and Palmer, Gignac, Manocha, and Stough (2005) recently raised important issues concerning the construct validity of the Mayer–Salovey–Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test Version 2.0 (MSCEIT; Mayer, Salovey, & Caruso, 2002). This study sought to further examine the constructs measured by the MSCEIT by replicating and extending their research through confirmatory factor analyses (CF...
متن کاملMayer–Salovey–Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT/MEIS) and overall, verbal, and nonverbal intelligence: Meta-analytic evidence and critical contingencies
Emotional intelligence (EI) has been widely used in psychological, managerial, and educational research. Among all the measures, MSCEIT (and its earlier version MEIS) has been widely used to assess EI ability. However, there is little systematic research regarding its relationship with overall, verbal, and nonverbal intelligence. The current research fills this gap in the literature by meta-ana...
